Making a list, and checking it twice

I have been going through the lists of what we need to bring for Amanda's adoption. I am hoping it will fit into one suitcase, but I doubt it! Besides our clothing and shoes and sundries, we will need the following items for Amanda.
  • Jacket
  • Sweater
  • Tops
  • Pants
  • Dresses
  • Socks
  • Shoes
  • Pajamas
Personal care items:
  • Diaper Bag
  • Diapers
  • Diaper wipes
  • Baby wash
  • Baby lotion
  • Toys
  • Washcloths (they just do not use them like we do)
  • Blanket
  • Books
Medicines to take, just in case:
  • Adult and Children's Tylenol
  • Adult and Children's Ibuprofen
  • Children's Benedryl
  • Children's Gas medication (to help pass gas)
  • Children's tummy ache medicine
  • Neosporin
  • Band aids
  • Pepto for adults
  • Imodium
  • Thermometer
  • Antibiotic, just in case
After she leaves the orphanage, I will need food for her. I wonder if she chews her food? I need to be prepared for a soft food diet for her. I was lucky to have a store right down the street from me in Vorzel and a dining hall, but I wonder where I will shop and how we will eat in Tallinn? I would love to be as close to the orphanage as possible, but I do not know where I will stay? I know there is a bed and breakfast that other parents stayed at for $100 a night. It is the place recommended to us by other parents.
Gift Giving
It is the custom to bring gifts in Europe. Our paperwork says to bring 9; 6 small gifts for caregivers and nicer gifts for the orphanage director, doctor, etc. We will need a gift for the orphanage which can be toys, clothes etc. They ask that we don't bring stuffed toys. I do have a few blankets and a couple of homemade quilts for them. Any ideas for gifts would be appreciated.

It is never too early to get everything ready...

Hi there,

Goodmorning, early morning, from another native resident of Tucson!

And also - congratulations on Amanda! I actually would love to adopt, I've always wanted to but the urge to do so has come full in the past year. However, I am not in the most financially stable situation at the moment and finding ways to become so is difficult.

I've been reading your blog off and on for a while now but thought I would take a moment to unlurk. You are part of the blogger network Another woman on another blog I read has adopted 4 girls and is adopting a little boy at the moment. Anyway, one of her suggestions, I think it was hers, was to take lip gloss for the little girls. Its small and plentiful. But then I don't know if you are supposed to take presents for the kids too.

Anyway, since I cannot adopt at the moment I would love to contribute something something if I can?

Best wishes always,
-Debrah

Good morning Debrah,

It is good to hear from a fellow Tucsonan. Thank you for your post. I understand the call to adopt and the hesitance because of finanaces. When we were going through our home study, the social worker told us we could be adopting locally from foster care and would be paid to adopt with a monthly stipend to help with expenses. This could be an option for you?

Your friend sounds amazing, Amanda is only our second adoption and likely our last. She will be our 8th child, we have 6 homegrown, Kara from Ukraine. I like her lip gloss idea, I was thinking coloring books and crayons would be easy to pack. I do not know how many children live at the orphanage however.

I would gladly accept anything you would like to contribute. You can email me at the address swkrissie@gmail.com.

Thank you for reading our blog.

Kris,
Your site is adorable. Sorry I haven't read in a long time. Glad to hear of progress toward your new daughter. I know the airline ticket matter is such a huge expense and so difficult to plan cuz exact dates are unknown. I hope things go well for you.

Kris, just had to pop in and ask if you are traveling to get Amanda with both of your girls. Been wondering for days and thought I should just ask. I probably missed that on the blog!! lol

Hope you get her home soon!
